1. Nordstrom expands footprintNordstrom is expanding its no-inventory store format. The stores, described as “neighborhood service hubs,” will join Nordstrom’s expanding Big Apple presence, which includes a men’s store, Nordstrom Rack and a 320,000 square feet flagship due to open in October. The Nordstrom Local locations in Manhattan will reportedly offer online order pick-up, alterations and tailoring, personal styling and other services that reflect the unique needs of customers who live and work in the surrounding neighborhoods.
2. CVS closes 46 storesDrugstore chain CVS Pharmacy is reportedly planning to shutter 46 underperforming locations. The stores being closed represent about one percent of the chain’s 9,600 locations. The retailer will incur a $135 million “store rationalization charge” during its first quarter connected to the action.
3. Amazon partners with Ford for in-car deliveryAmazon Key, introduced by Amazon to expand its last-mile operations started with the shopper’s home and expanded to garage delivery last month. The In-car delivery option will now let customers get their packages delivered to their cars. Using the Amazon Key app, customers will be provided with alerts when their package is headed to the car and when it has been delivered. The app will also let them know when the car is locked and unlocked.
4. Wayfair’s losses mountDTC furniture retailer Wayfair's net loss widened to $200.4 million from $107.8 million a year ago, according to a company press release. The company reported a negative adjusted EBITDA of $102.2 million, up from negative $49.96 million in the year-ago period. Wayfair's executives said the company's outlook was positive related to the gains it did achieve in growing revenue, active users, order volume and order value.
5. Gucci relaunches cosmeticsCome this weekend, Gucci — in partnership with Coty — will debut a new lipstick collection on Gucci.com and in select New York boutiques, according to its website. The beauty lineup comes nine months after the debut of the @guccibeauty Instagram account, which suggested a possible makeup relaunch for the luxury house. Luxury companies have been tapping into new verticals to unlock new customer bases and then cross-sell and up-sell to them.
