1. Bed Bath and Beyond lays off 150 employees

Bed Bath & Beyond laid off almost 150 employees this week, including less than 50 in its flagship store operations and less than 100 in its Christmas Tree Shops stores, CNBC reported. The retailer has slowed down the pace of newer store openings and is investing in its online capabilities to help fend off stronger rivals, like Amazon.

2. PVH in talks to sell Calvin Klein's women's jeans business.

PVH is reportedly in talks with apparel company G-III, its North America women's wear brand partner about G-III taking over its Calvin Klein women's jeans business. The jeans line launched last year wasn't successful and didn't impact Q4 figures. For the full year, total revenue of PVH rose 8%, owing to a 12% increase at Tommy Hilfiger. Tommy Hilfiger is reportedly leading for PVH, and Calvin Klein is expected to make up for last year's misses by Q2 this year.

3. Athleta makes wellness push

Women’s athleisure brand Athelta, announced Thursday that it is partnering with Well+Good to host monthly wellness-related events in its stores around the country. Its first event, to be held on Saturday in New York, Wellness Collective will bring together female thought leaders and innovators in four key elements of holistic wellness that fuel overall health and athleticism: mind and body; self-care; finance and career; and community.

4. Woolworth's $650 Million bet on automation

Woolworths' brand new distribution center started spinning out their first deliveries to supermarkets around Victoria. This major step in automation by the company comes just days after its rival Coles said it had struck a deal with British online supermarket group Ocado to run its website and two warehouses by 2023, which will double its home-delivery capacity.

5. Amazon invests $35M in Amazon Retail India

Amazon has reportedly invested INR 240 Crore (approximately $35M) into its food eCommerce arm Amazon Retail India. The company was quoted as saying to ET that “Our food retail business currently serves customers in 100+ cities across India. We are on track to scale the business further by adding more selection and expanding reach to serve customers in more pin codes”
